Dr. Lively previously served as a professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the WVU School of Medicine in addition to being a team physician and medical director of the WVU Athletic Department for over twenty years. He was also the medical director of the Human Performance Laboratory in the WVU Department of Exercise Physiology. Dr. Lively has been a sports medicine provider at all levels of competition, including high school, college, and the NFL.

Dr. Lively treats a wide variety of musculoskeletal and medical problems related to sports and physical activity. He is a practitioner of osteopathic manipulative medicine, which he uses to as an adjunct treatment for neck and back injuries. Dr. Lively has also conducted and published research on a broad range of sports medicine and exercise physiology topics and continues to serve as a reviewer for several medical journals.
